Ballet (Levels 1 - 5)
Ages 7 - Adult
Exploring of the art of classical ballet, students will dance a full barre and center followed by (for qualified students) a pointe barre and either center pointe work or coaching in a classical variation. This class will focus on building strength, increasing working turnout and extension, and refining the dancer's classical technique. Boyz Only Street Stuff
Ages 7 - 10
No girls allowed in this Hip Hop class designed with boyz in mind. A great class for developing speed and coordination. Taught by a male teacher with age appropriate music. Combo Classes including Leap N Learn! NEW!
Pre-K 1 Combo: Ages 2.5-3.5, Pre-K 2 Combo: Ages 3.5 – 5, Kinder Combo: Ages 5 – 6
An energetic, creative and nurturing dance experience focused on introducing both Ballet and Tap techniques to a wide range of musical styles. Key elements will include rhythm exploration, musicality and expanding on the child’s natural sense of music and movement. A perfect first dance class experience incorporating instruments, props and creative movement. All teachers have been trained in the Leap 'N Learn Dance Curriculum which will be incorporated into all Dance Combo classes this year! Competitive Dance Companies*
Ages 9 and up
This is an opportunity for the more experienced dancer to put the techniques learned in class into practice. Learn a selection of well choreographed competition dances, perform in different styles and expose yourself to other performers at state, regional and national competition levels. Dedication, commitment, and teamwork are not only expected, but are the key components in any successful performing group. *(Audition Only – see guidelines for Audition Info. Creative Drama 1: Ages 7 – 11, Creative Drama 2: Ages 11 – 13
Introducing students to basic acting principles through creative theatre games and improvisation, focus is on self-expression, communication, characterization, listening and spontaneity; All of which help lead to increased self-confidence. Basic scene work will be introduced in the spring semester. Hip Hop
Ages 5 – 18
Express yourself and your attitude to today’s music through high energy and fun-filled choreography. Discover the history and culture of hip hop through trends that shaped the form as we know it, both past and present. (All music and movements is specifically chosen to be age appropriate.) Jazz (Levels 1 – 5)
Ages 7 - 18
Focuses on building both technical and performance skills. The class will begin with a warmup, followed by center work, floor work, stretching, and progressions across the floor. Students will explore choreographic styles ranging from theatrical to contemporary. Lyrical / Contemporary Jazz (Levels 1 – 5)
Ages 10– 18
Combines classical Ballet technique with Modern and Jazz dance choreographed to contemporary music with a strong emphasis on self-expression and interpreting the story of the song. Focus is on building both a technically and artistically strong dancer. Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre 1: Ages 10 – 12, Musical Theatre 2: Ages 13 – 18
An intro to the “Triple Threat,” – singing, acting and dancing. Instruction will include basic vocal technique, movement for the actor, intro to acting through improv. games and basic scenework and character analysis. This class is highly beneficial when taken in conjunction with other dance, voice and drama classes. Sight-singing will be taught through use of the solfege technique. Performing Arts Companies (PAC)*
Ages 6-18
These companies are designed for the more serious and committed performer who loves to sing, act and dance. The program is structured at each level to help develop the “triple threat” by requiring core technique classes in each genre. Company students will perform in two annual productions, and may also perform at competitions and local outreach venues. *(Audition Only – see guidelines for Audition Info. Ages 6-12
Does your child love to perform but its hard to find the time to do it all? Then this class is made for you. A once a week opportunity to be a part of a small production of a Junior Show that will be performed in house in February. Learn the technique of rehearsing a show from start to finish. A great class for siblings! Scene Study NEW!
14 and up
For the more experienced actor, this class produces a more in depth focus on scenes and monologues. Emphasizing the development of believable characters, scene analysis and integrating truthful acting objectives. Master acting techniques will be introduced such as Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg, Sanford Meisner and Michael Chekhov. ShowTime 1 & 2 NEW!
Show Time 1: Ages 5 – 6, Show Time 2: Ages 7 – 9
For the child who loves to sing and dance. Learn the fundamental dance and vocal techniques needed in musical theatre. A very popular and fun-filled class. Sight-singing will be taught through use of the solfege technique. Ages 3.5 – 5
A unique and nurturing introduction to the world of creative movement and theatre. This class combines movement, song and storytelling to develop coordination and fine motor skills. Ages 7 – 9*
Our regular Show Time class plus the added opportunity to perform a choreographed number at one of the competitions that our PAC/Dance Co. will be attending. Designed as a stepping stone for future PAC hopefuls. Combined Age Level
This course is designed for our more serious and experienced dancer. Students will work hard to build strength and hone their classical technique skills by focusing on these key dance principles. Summer Private Lessons
All Ages
Front & Center offers private lessons in dance, voice and acting. Should you wish to schedule a session of private lessons (sold in packages of 6 one hour lessons), please contact the Center. These lessons will be scheduled according to your schedule, room and teacher availability. Summer: Broadway Bound
Ages 3 - 6
Campers will explore the basics of Singing, Dancing and Acting – Broadway Style! There will also be crafts and basic costuming all centered around the theme of the week. Each session will culminate in a half hour informal showcase for parents and friends at 11:30am in the studio on the Friday of each week. All campers will receive a free t-shirt and commemorative photo of their group! Each session is unique, so choose from 1 or all 5! Snack will be included in all Broadway Bound sessions. Ages 7 - 18
This well-rounded program, incorporating classes in acting, voice and dance, allows the young performer the opportunity to improve upon what they do best, while building self-confidence and having a blast. Each day of each session incorporates classes in all three genres, in which the students not only learn great technique, but put it into practice by working on material that will culminate in a performance at the end of each session. There are snack and lunch opportunities during the course of the day, so please be sure to bring-your-own food and drinks. Each session has a unique theme, so whether you choose to do just one or all three, the experience will be invaluable. This is a great environment for your kids to make new friends with others who love to perform or for trying out something completely new! No prior experience required. Each session will be divided up into age appropriate groups. The full day option will delve into each genre more specifically as well as introducing new topics through special workshops. Workshop topics may include such things as Audition Techniques, Costuming and Prop Building, Acting for the Camera, Yoga, and more. Tap Levels 1 – 5
Ages 7 – 18
Learn how to mix technique and rhythm with combinations across the floor. Develop speed, style, rhythmical consciousness and physical coordination. Choreographic styles from rhythm tap to the more theatrical styles will be covered. Voice
Voice 1: Ages 7 – 9
Teaches vocal techniques for developments of the voice through classical training, diaphragmatic breathing, pitch control and projection. Learn how to sing as an ensemble as we reveal the keys to harmonizing. Using the fundamental techniques learned, age appropriate material will be chosen, applying practical skills to performance for singers and musical theater performers. Focus is then placed on lyrical interpretation, phrasing, development of stage presence and song delivery. Sight-singing will be taught through use of the solfege technique. Workshops
All Ages
Offered periodically throughout the year, our Two-Day Workshop Series is a unique and exciting experience! An original professional cast member from Broadway and other local shows (e.g. Paper Mill Playhouse or NJPAC) will join us at the studio to teach original choreography or material from the show, followed by a one-on-one talk back with the Performer. We then take a trip into NY City or to a local theater to see the show in which they are performing, and get a one-time opportunity to speak with the cast members!
