This weekly workshop is designed as an add on class for older dancers already studying other genres. Dancers will spend 30 minutes each week learning choreography in all different hip hop styles including, pop, lock, krump, breakin', lyrical hip hop hop, and more. Scott Nicholson, our newest NYC teacher, will teach this Director's Permission weekly workshop style class. Students must be enrolled in at least one other technique or Hip Hop class before requesting permission.
A great first dance class for the child who is looking for a little something different! This super cool, energetic, and fun class will explore basic hip hop moves along with technique, stretching, and strengthening, to today's hottest (and yes age appropriate) music. For both boys and girls, join our newest teacher, Mr. Scott, for a Hip Hoppin' fun time!
New this year, this 30-minute class is being added for those dancers interested in taking Tap outside of the combo class. We will explore basic tap vocabulary in an effort to better prepare them for their first formal Tap class in Tap 1 at age 7. Dancers will begin with a tap warm-up at center. They will then be given progressions across the floor as well choreography. Emphasis will be placed on expanding tap vocabulary and clarity of sounds. We will also learn that it is really fun to make music with our feet!
New this year, Intro to Ballet is specifically designed for returning students who have already had 2-3 years of Dance Combo and Director's Permission is required. We will continue to follow the Leap N' Learn Curriculum and will still incorporate age appropriate creative movement into each class. In addition, students will be introduced to more ballet terminology and technique in an effort to better prepare them for their first formal Ballet experience in Ballet 1 at age 7. In addition to our Monthly objectives, we will begin to learn the stories of the great ballets through books, music, and DVDs. We will also explore movement concepts and how we translate them into choreography. Miss Renee will teach this class this year. She is very excited to explore even further with our youngest dancers!
Teen Open Classes are offered in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Theatre Dance. These classes are a great and comfortable environment for the Teen dancer who loves to dance but doesn't have the time or experience to commit to leveled classes. There is no minimum class per week requirement. These classes are all one hour long and will be taught by the same master teachers as our leveled classes. This year there are multiple options during the week for these classes. While the level in these classes may be mixed, we will always teach to the highest level of the class. It is our goal to challenge our Teen dancers choreographically, while also providing them with a solid technical foundation.
New this year, Intro to Jazz is specifically designed for returning students who have already had 2-3 years of Dance Combo and Director's Permission is required. This class will introduce our youngest dancers to basic Jazz terminology and technique in an effort to better prepare them for their first formal Jazz class in Jazz 1 at age 7. In addition to our Monthly Objectives and Movement Concepts, we will explore Jazz styles from Musical Theatre to more Contemporary Jazz with age appropriate music and movement. Emphasis will be placed on improving both strength and flexibility. We will teach our youngest ones that dance is hard work, but super fun! Miss Renee will teach this class this year. She is very excited to explore even further with our youngest dancers!
