MUSICAL THEATRE CLASSES
Acting - Our Acting classes vary in style and content based on the needs of our students. Students are
exposed to everything from Improvisation, Scene Study, Building a character, creating a physical score,
and how to access her or his own personal “actor toolbox” We have introduce the methods of the great
teachers such as Richard Richard Boleslavsky, Lee Strasberg, Sanford Meisner, Stella, Adler, and
Michael Chekov, among others.
ShowTime (Intro to Level 3)- For the child, 2nd Grade and above, who loves to sing, act, and dance. Learn the fundamental dance and vocal techniques needed in musical theatre. A very popular and fun-filled class. Sight-singing will be taught through use of the solfege technique. This class will inspire the imagination and nurture the young love of theatre. This class incorporates the Leap ‘N Learn for Musical Theatre Syllabus, written by our Director, Miss Renee Palermo in conjunction with Beverly Spell and Dr. Annie Spell. This syllabus is now officially licensed and being taught by approved studios all over the country. Front & Center is the first and only studio in our area to be granted this license. SPRING SHOW IS MANDATORY.
Voice - GROUP : Group voice lessons designed for singers at all levels. Technique as well as appropriate vocal material will be given in each class. Our group voice class will perform a number at our June recital.
PRIVATE : Private lessons are available on a first-come first serve basis, depending on studio and teacher availability. Sold in semester packages of 14. Please call us to schedule your private lesson. One-time trial lessons are available for $45 and must be pre-paid to book. 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel a lesson and receive a makeup.
Acro - This Class works on basic acrobatics technique including beginning tumbling, conditioning, flexibility, upper body strength, proper form and strengthening. Specific skills include forward and backward rolls, straddle forward roll, head stand, cartwheels and bridges. Acrobatic movements are combined with dance steps as students learn the fundamentals of movement and timing with tumbling. As skills improve, more floor gymnastics tricks will be incorporated such as walkovers, back handsprings and other advanced moves. These skills transfer easily to activities such as gymnastics, cheerleading, and dancing on Broadway!
The Adult Experience - Ages 18+; our adult class offerings can vary throughout the year based on interest. In the 2018-2019 SEASON, WE ARE OFFERING ADULT JAZZ, TAP AND YOGA. Strategically scheduled during some of your children’s classes, the adult program will offer parents the option to join in on the fun. The adult program is broken into 4 week sessions because we know it’s hard to commit! Last session may participate in the spring show! Yoga is taught weekly by our very own Mary Ellen Just. You won’t want to miss it!
Ballet (Levels Intro to Level 4) - Exploring the art of classical ballet, students will dance a full barre followed by center work, across the floor and classical variations. This class will focus on building strength, increasing turnout and extension, and refining the dancer's classical technique. The study of ballet also helps improve poise, posture, and confidence. While FNC’s ballet technique is primarily based in Vaganova, we also teach the importance of knowing the distinction in classical styles from RAD to Cecchetti.
Hip Hop (Levels Intro to Level 4) -Express yourself and your attitude to the music of today through high energy and fun-filled choreography. Discover the history and culture of hip hop through trends that shaped the form as we know it, both past and present. (All music and movements is specifically chosen to be age appropriate.)
Jazz (Levels Intro to Level 4)- This class focuses on building both technical and performance skills. The class will begin with a warm-up, followed by center work, floor work, stretching, and progressions across the floor. Students will explore choreographic styles ranging from theatrical to contemporary. We will also begin to study basic anatomy through the FUNunctional Anatomy Curriculum.
Lyrical (Levels Intro to Level 4) - Combines classical Ballet technique with Modern and Jazz dance choreographed to contemporary music with a strong emphasis on self-expression and interpreting the story of the song. Focus is on building both a technically and artistically strong dancer. (Ballet and Jazz required for levels 2-5).
SLT - Stretch, Leap, and Turn -

This course is designed for dance company members only. Students will work hard to build strength and hone their classical technique skills by focusing on these key dance principles. Director's permission only.

Theatre Dance Styles - This class explores the full cannon of Broadway dance styles by decades and significant choreographers who have impacted the genre throughout the history of musical theatre. We will examine the works of classic choreographers such as Agnes DeMille, Bob Fosse, Michael Bennett, Jerome Robbins, and more as well as the choreographers of Broadway today.
